Ailsa Wilson, a hearing therapist trainee from Your Way | Kia Roha, is now holding a regular monthly clinic at Hearing House, which began on Thursday, 12 March.

Ailsa brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her role in hearing therapy, along with a strong commitment to supporting people with hearing loss and their whānau in ways that are people-centred, practical and empowering.

Working together to support people with hearing loss

Your Way | Kia Roha is a community support organisation dedicated to helping disabled people live their best lives.

Every service they provide is shaped around what matters most to the individual and their whānau. Their work is guided by listening first and building support around each person’s priorities.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how I can work together with the different professional practices at The Hearing House to support people with hearing loss and their families during their rehabilitation and beyond that.”

Hearing therapy focuses on ensuring people are connected, resourced and supported in ways that enable full participation in everyday life.

Lived experience drives her passion

Ailsa has had a long-standing and ongoing relationship with The Hearing House, and it’s this lived experience that she says shapes the way she works. "My 18-year-old son went to The Hearing house pre-school, receiving his cochlear implants when he was at intermediate school, and he’s been under the care of The Hearing House since then.

“My lived experience is what put me on this hearing therapy passion and journey, because we work truly from that space of what the person and their whānau need, and what we can do together.”

Flexible clinic options to suit different needs

While we’re pleased to have Ailsa at The Hearing House each month, we appreciate that coming into our clinic doesn’t work for everyone.

Through Your Way | Kia Roha, hearing therapy clinics are available in a range of community locations across the country. In Auckland, appointments are offered in Manukau, Māngere Town Centre, Royal Oak, Henderson and Albany.

For our kiritaki/clients, this means that if coming into The Hearing House isn’t practical, there are other accessible options available. Our partnership approach allows us to help connect people with the service location that best suits their circumstances, ensuring support remains flexible and centred around individual needs.

We’re excited to welcome Ailsa to The Hearing House and look forward to the positive impact our collaboration will bring for the people and whānau we support.

Clinics will be held on the second Thursday of the month, starting on Thursday 12 March.
