Celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori at The Hearing House

Today, The Hearing House team came together to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – sharing language, waiata, food and time with one another.

We began with a karakia before two of our kiritaki/clients, Chevelle Aupouri and Kathy Thomas, led us in waiata, teaching us the words and guiding us through Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi. 🎶

There was plenty of singing, laughter and encouragement as we gave it a go. It was particularly special to have Chevelle and Kathy share their knowledge with us and help everyone join in.

Lunch was a real team effort too, with Lisa cooking kūmara on the BBQ and other members of our team contributing dishes for everyone to share. It was a lovely opportunity to step away from our usual mahi, enjoy some kōrero and spend time together.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is an opportunity to celebrate te reo Māori as a taonga of Aotearoa and encourage its use and learning in our everyday lives. At The Hearing House, it is also a chance to recognise the importance of language, culture and the connections they create within our team and the communities we work alongside.

A huge ngā mihi to Chevelle and Kathy for sharing your knowledge and leading us in such a special waiata. We loved learning from you both. 💙
