We were delighted to welcome Jon Tai-Rakena — NZSL tutor, advocate, and former face of NZSL Week — to The Hearing House recently. After his visit, Jon sent us a beautiful, heartfelt message that truly touched us:
“I’m so grateful for the warm invitation, the way you welcomed me, and the beautiful way you explained what your professional service team does. The tour and the time you took to awhi me through the space made me feel incredibly respected and at home.
I genuinely felt aroha and whakawhanaungatanga throughout the experience, and it was something taonga. I was deeply impressed by how your team communicates, uses signs, and creates a space that feels safe and inclusive. It really did feel like home to me.
Thank you for making me feel so welcomed. I will always cherish that day.”
Jon also shared a moving video reflecting on his visit and the connection he felt here. You can watch Jon's reflection here.
It was a true honour to host Jon, and we’re incredibly grateful for the time, warmth, and spirit he brought to our team.
