Whakairo Māori Carving Unveiled at Auckland Deaf Society
On Saturday, 20 September, during Māori Language Week, the Auckland Deaf Society unveiled its first ever Whakairo Māori Carving (Pare) in a moving dawn ceremony. Raising the Deaf Flag at Parliament

A family trait: thriving across worlds
Ray, Jenny, and Janet’s grandmother, Avis, was born deaf in the early 1900s. Without access to hearing aids at the time, she developed strong lip-reading skills to communicate with those around her.
