Last month, we hosted another Connect and Share group at The Hearing House – and what a special afternoon it was.
Hosted by our whānau support counsellor Hazel and audiologist Nick, the session brought together cochlear implant users and their families for an afternoon of connection, encouragement, and plenty of good cups of tea. We were also joined by Fellini, our student social worker, and Nicola from Cochlear, who both played a key role in co-facilitating the session and supporting the group on the day.

Many attendees shared how helpful it was to learn about other people’s experiences and realise they’re not alone in their journey.
There was an honest and open discussion about the impact hearing differences have on day-to-day life – not just for the individual, but for partners and family members too.
Listening to the perspectives of hearing partners added another valuable layer, helping everyone recognise that while the road can be challenging, it’s also one that people navigate with strength and resilience.
The Connect and Share gatherings provide a space where people feel heard, supported, and uplifted.

One of the most powerful aspects of the group was the sense of shared progress. People reflected on how far they’ve come, celebrated progress, and offered support for the areas that remain challenging.
We’re already looking forward to the next Connect and Share session on Tuesday, 12 August – a time to reflect, support, and share.
We hope to see you there!
