VOLUNTEER AS A CI MENTOR

Every year, we match future cochlear implant recipients with a mentor who already wears a cochlear implant. Many of our future recipients have never met anyone who has a cochlear implant and just want to ask questions about what life is like with a cochlear implant, what it means for daily life, how you might hear with a cochlear implant or how the surgery went.

We often try to match people who live in the same regional location and have similar age or interests.  If there is a future recipient in your area, we will email you to seek your permission to introduce you by email. It is then up to the mentor and mentee to arrange a suitable time to meet. These will sometimes be one off meetings at a cafe, or at a room at The Hearing House. Some recipients may only want communication over email or phone to ask questions.

Many of our existing mentors find it rewarding to share their cochlear implant stories with others, and many find that they stay in touch with their mentee after they receive their cochlear implant. Please contact us if you have any questions, or enter your details below if you would like to be contacted by a mentor.

The frequency of contact depends on your regional location, and the number of mentors/mentees in that area. As a volunteer, you can advise us of your availability, and we can work to find an arrangement that suits you.
