About the event
We’re excited to share that Power of Speech is taking place in Canberra on Tuesday, 13 October.
Hosted by First Voice, an international network of organisations advocating for world-class early intervention and listening and spoken language services for children who are Deaf or hard of hearing, the event celebrates the achievements and experiences of young people who use cochlear implants to access sound and spoken language. The Hearing House is proud to be a founding member of First Voice.
This year, our Loud Shirt Day Ambassador Emerson Hand will take the stage, representing The Hearing House and sharing his story.
Emerson became profoundly deaf following bacterial meningitis at 18 months and received bilateral cochlear implants shortly before his second birthday. Now nine years old, he is thriving in Year 4 and is supported by his cochlear implants, NZSL and his whānau.
