Volunteer as a CI Mentor
The Hearing House is looking for volunteers, and we'd love to hear from you. You can choose to assist in fundraising activities, administration, or office support. If you are interested, please fill in the form below, and we will be in touch with you shortly.
VOLUNTEERING AS A CI MENTOR
Every year we match future CI recipients with a mentor who already wears a CI. Many of our future recipients have never met any one who has a CI and just want to ask questions about what life is like with a cochlear implant, what it means for daily life, how you might hear with a CI or how the surgery went.
We often try to match people who live in the same regional location and have similar age or interests. If there is a future recipient in your area, we will email you to seek your permission to introduce you by email. It is then up to the mentor and mentee to arrange a suitable time to meet. These will sometimes be one off meetings at a cafe, or at a room at The Hearing House. Some recipients may only want communication over email or phone to ask questions.
Many of our existing mentors find it rewarding to share their cochlear implant stories with others, and many find that they stay in touch with their mentee after they receive their cochlear implant. Please contact us if you have any questions, or enter your details below if you would like to be contacted a mentor.
Depending on your regional area - some people are contacted once a year; some are contacted more frequently. You can say no at any time if you are busy and do not have the time.
