The Hearing House Preschool

The Hearing House Preschool is a unique centre established to create an accelerated learning environment for deaf, hearing impaired and hearing children to prepare them for mainstream school. We take a holistic play based teaching approach, promoting listening and spoken language in a nurturing environment. Our professional team is committed to an active partnership with families; and encompassing Te Whaariki (the National Early Childhood Curriculum Document). Our philosophy promotes:

A Language Rich Environment

  • focused listening techniques
  • interactive communication skills
  • extensive vocabulary
  • love of literature

Dynamic Relationships

  • working co-operatively with others
  • developing a sense of independence
  • caring for themselves, each other and their environment
  • valuing difference

Motivated Learners

  • being confident, creative and successful in their learning
  • taking risks and making new discoveries
  • developing thinking, early maths and literacy skills
  • developing self confidence in their physical abilities

The Hearing House Preschool programme offers a small class size and a high adult to child ratio. This provides each child with rich opportunities to explore experience and develop an enthusiasm for learning. We provide an environment that is supportive and challenging to maximise opportunities to extend spoken language. We believe that each child will excel to his or her maximum potential.
